Today, we’ll guide you through a simple, yet incredibly delicious, sushi recipe that pairs perfectly with our Umami Tsunami blend.
Ingredients:
For the sushi rice:
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 2 ½ cups water
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp ZEST Umami Tsunami Salt Mix (featuring seaweed, salt, and furikake)
For the sushi rolls:
- Nori (seaweed sheets)
- Fresh vegetables (like cucumber, avocado, or carrots)
- Fresh fish (salmon, tuna, or shrimp), or tofu for a vegetarian option
- Soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi for serving
Instructions:
1. Cook the Sushi Rice
Start by rinsing the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice in a rice cooker with 2 ½ cups of water, or follow the stovetop instructions on your rice package.
2. Prepare the Rice Seasoning
While the rice is still warm, mix together the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over low heat until the sugar dissolves. Once done, pour the seasoning over the cooked rice and gently fold it in.
3. Spice It Up with Umami Tsunami
Now for the game changer—mix 2 tablespoons of our Umami Tsunami spice blend into the sushi rice. The combination of seaweed, salt, and furikake in our blend will enhance the natural umami of the rice and give your sushi a depth of flavor that’s unforgettable.
4. Assemble the Sushi

5. Roll and Slice
Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, applying gentle pressure to make a firm roll. Once rolled, slice the sushi into bite-sized pieces with a sharp knife.
6. Serve and Enjoy
