Zesty Za’atar is more than just a spice blend—it’s a gateway to the sun-drenched hills of the Mediterranean and the bustling markets of the Middle East. Our journey with za’atar began during our travels in Jordan, where we were captivated by the aroma of freshly ground zesty sumac, the earthiness of thyme, and the richness of sesame seeds.
One encounter stands out vividly—a family-run spice stall tucked into a quiet corner of a market in Beirut. The vendor shared stories of how za’atar was historically used as both a seasoning and a symbol of hospitality. We sampled countless variations, from intensely tangy to subtly herbal, and worked to craft a blend that honours these traditions while adding our own modern twist.
What makes our Zesty Za’atar unique is the addition of freshly ground lemon zest and a hint of Aleppo chili, which enhances the classic flavours with a gentle citrus brightness and warmth.
